A court in Shanghai threw out a civil case against Apple Inc on Thursday, citing a lack of evidence in a trademark dispute and ruled the US computer giant could continue iPad sales in the city.

The Shanghai case marked a victory for Apple in a protracted and ongoing legal battle with the debt-laden Proview over rights to the iPad name.

In opening arguments, Proview said it owned the Chinese rights to the ?iPad? name and was seeking legal backing to force the US technology giant to stop selling the tablet computer in the city, where Apple has three stores.

It is rare for a Chinese enterprise to accuse an overseas firm of trademark breaches, even though foreign companies frequently complain of intellectual property rights violations in China.

On Thursday, the Pudong district court found ?a lack of evidence that? the sales of the ?iPad? tablet computer constitutes a trademark violation.?

The court also said in the statement on its website there was ?no law or regulation? which prohibits Apple from continuing sales of the iPad.

?The court has decided to reject the provisional injunction and terminate the litigation of the case,? it said.

The Taiwanese affiliate of Proview registered ?iPad? as a trademark in several countries including China as early as 2000 ? years before Apple began selling its product.

The US titan subsequently bought the rights for the global trademark, but Proview, based in the southern city of Shenzhen, claimed the Taiwanese affiliate had no right to sell the Chinese rights.

Apple last year took the firm to a Chinese court, claiming trademark infringement, but the court ruled the US company lacked ?supporting facts and evidence? for its claim ? even though a Hong Kong court had previously sided with Apple.

Apple is now appealing that case but Proview, which makes computer monitors, had itself filed trademark lawsuits against Apple in China.

A 20-year-old female Knox College student called campus security late Monday night after she was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified male.

Galesburg Police reports stated the woman was walking home from Sharvey G. Umbeck Science and Mathematics Center on South West Street when four young men began following her and yelling at her, although she could not understand what they were saying.

The four males surrounded her and one of them struck her on the left side of her face. The blow knocked her to the ground, and the four males left the scene. According to an informational email distributed by the Knox College Office of Campus Security, the four did not attempt to rob the student.

The victim then got up and continued walking to her dorm. She called a friend to meet her outside but when she arrived, the men had fled.

She told officers she did not believe the men attended Knox College, police reports stated. She said they were wearing dark clothing, but could not recall any identifiers because the incident happened quickly.

The informational email was sent to all Knox students, faculty and staff roughly 90 minutes after the incident occurred.

Knox College Director of Campus Security John Schlaf said his office is coordinating the investigation of the incident with the Galesburg Police Department.

?The informational email did generate some information from several witnesses and we have followed up on that information,? Schlaf said. ?We are pleased with the efforts of our students to help out and stay informed of the incident.?

Police reports stated that security officers reviewed some camera footage but could not observe anything related to the incident. Officers will continue to review additional footage.

There are no suspects as of press deadline.

The Galesburg Police Department said Knox College is heading up the investigation, and police will provide added patrols around the area where the assault allegedly took place.

For example, people tend to spend more time focused on working and less time engaging in leisure and recreation activities, resulting in fewer motor vehicle and other accidents.

According to a 10-year study at a Level 1 regional trauma center, presented today at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), economic trends do impact orthopedic trauma volume.

Between 1999 and 2009, a local county's population steadily grew at an annual rate between .9 and 2.9 percent, according to the study, "Do Changes in the Economy Impact Orthopaedic Trauma Volume?" Unemployment rates peaked in 2002 at 5.4 percent, declined to 3.3 percent in 2006, and rose again in 2009 to 10.7 percent. While general trauma volume increased during the later years, there was a significant negative association between orthopaedic trauma volume and county unemployment rates of the previous year.

Environmental Group Lists Best, Worst Congressional Voting Records (ContributorNetwork)

According to the Hill, the League of Conservation Voters has announced its yearly rankings of lawmakers with the best and worst voting records in terms of energy and environmental measures. The league analyzed 11 votes in the Senate and 35 in the House of Representatives.

Overall, 24 representatives and 31 senators received a 100 percent score, while 13 senators and four representatives received 0 percent score. Here are some of the highest scoring and lowest scoring lawmakers and details on their recent environmental track records.

Highest Scoring

* Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla. One of Sen. Nelson's biggest environmental accomplishments was leading Senate opposition to four bills that sought to weaken the Clean Air Act, reported the Environmental Defense Fund. He also tackled one of the biggest environmental disasters in U.S. history, the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, by fighting to obtain video from the oil company so that other scientists could calculate the flow of oil, noted the Tampa Bay Times. After obtaining thousands of hours of videos, the senator sent the videos to researchers and scientists, and even posted clips online, in order to get a more accurate estimate of the devastating spill.

* Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash. Though he announced he intentions to run as a candidate for Washington's next governor, Rep. Inslee has continued to back clean energy initiatives in Congress, according to the Examiner. Rep. Inslee has also voiced his concerns about climate change and his major congressional campaigns include restoring protections for national forests and limiting oil-tanker traffic in the Puget Sound. Additionally, he took on a major role at the House panel hearings on stripping the EPA of its greenhouse gas regulating powers, often citing the science behind global warming, reported the New York Times.

Lowest Scoring

* Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.

He received one of the lowest scores possible from the LCV. The Huffington Post reported Sen. Grassley has stated he does not believe in human-induced global warming, noting that while some scientists are confident it is occurring, more scientists disagree. The Daily Iowagien also added the senator supported the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and criticized President Barack Obama for choosing "extreme environmentalism over job creation."

* Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn. Even before her short run for presidential candidacy, she has voted on and sponsored bills that have sparked major concern from environmentalists. Rep. Bachmann co-sponsored a bill that would allow further oil and natural gas exploration in Alaska and another bill that would exempt oil and natural gas exploration, development and production on federal lands from state environmental control laws, according to the Political Guide. Another New York Times article reported that the representative has repeatedly called the EPA a "job-killer."
